We design spaces that breathe — landscapes and buildings rooted in their ecological context, crafted with restraint, and built to endure across generations.
Site-responsive designs that honour topography, hydrology, and native ecologies.
Buildings conceived as extensions of their landscape — living, breathing structures.
Reconnecting cities to natural systems through green corridors and biodiversity planning.
Sourcing and specifying low-carbon, locally harvested, and regenerative materials.
Founded in 2010, n-D Studio is a practice of 18 architects, landscape architects, and ecologists based in Oslo, Lisbon, and Chengdu. Our work spans private residences, civic landscapes, cultural institutions, and ecological restoration programs.
Every project begins with a period of deep site observation — reading the light, the water movement, the soil profile, and the community's collective memory of place. Only then do we begin to draw.
Extended periods of observation and ecological survey — understanding what already exists before anything is proposed.
Community engagement, stakeholder workshops, and careful listening to the spoken and unspoken needs of a place.
Detailed design with an emphasis on local craft traditions, bio-based materials, and honest construction.
Post-occupancy stewardship to ensure spaces evolve gracefully with time, season, and ecological succession.
n-D didn't design us a garden. They gave back to us a landscape that had always been there, waiting — we just hadn't known how to see it.
We take on a limited number of projects each year to ensure every site receives the attention it deserves. We'd love to hear about yours.
